Our Story

If you think about it, everything that we do, irrespective of stage of life, we plan. For better outcomes. For the best outcomes! And in the general sense of the term, we see people planning for retirement too. In fact, that overseas vacation you didn't go on - wasn't that to save for a rainy day far, far ahead in the future?

At Grey Up, we've done a deep, deep dive into the planning that goes into the 'retirement' era of our journey. And quite frankly, the stats specific to India have been quite concerning. Alarming even.

For example, we're seeing more and more folks on the cusp of retirement with health insurance plans. That's great. But when we dug into the details, we realised that almost all of them did not pass some very basic checks and balances, leaving the same folks at most certain risk of experiencing unexpected wealth depletion. And of course, medical inflation that's doubling these expenses every five years, is a whole other monster to deal with.

This research further pushed us into trying to figure out why this was happening. We believe we have figured it out. Unlike the other phases of life like school, college, career, home ownership, children's education - the blissful period of retirement does not come with the steady guidance that is present in all the life phases before it.

Additionally, culturally, in India, once parents have provided stability to their kids, they start preparing for what society tells them are their 'twilight years'. Sincerely from Team Grey Up - that is such a mundane view. Numbers don't lie. On average, Indians can expect to live at least 19 years post the age of 60. If you're calculating this in your head, you're right - that's one whole quarter of your entire life span! Why are we not planning properly for this very important (and most relaxed) period of our lives?
